The oldest stock certificate in the world was issued by the Dutch East India Company in 1606. This very rare reproduction of the 1606 Dutch East India Company Stock Certificate was painstakingly recreated by NYSE Euronext in 2007 to celebrate their merger with their employees. It was exclusively made to mark this occasion by the only wind-powered paper mill in the Netherlands that still makes paper by hand using rags and 17th century methods. Each certificate has a unique serial number and its own distinguishing handmade features

The Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC) was the world's first multinational company and issued shares to help finance their shipbuilding and trading expeditions. The VOC backed explorer Henry Hudson who claimed Manhattan for the Netherlands in 1609, called New Amsterdam. It was later renamed New York. Trading of VOC shares lead to the worlds first stock exchange. Original stock certificates from the Dutch East India Company have auctioned for over $1,000,000.

This is a truly rare piece. It comes with the original letter to employees. The Dutch East India Stock Certificate is approximately 8" x 12" .
