Description Extended Information

This Fannie Mae (Federal National Mortgage Association) Bond, issued to Shearson Lehman Hutton, is a great collector’s piece representing the recent mortgage meltdown scandal.  This extremely unique piece connects Fannie Mae with Lehman Brothers on one collectible bond certificate.  Fannie Mae is a publicly traded company the at is supported by the U.S. Government.  It was created in 1938 as part of the New Deal to expand the secondary market for mortgage backed securities and thus increase liquidity and increase lending assets available.  During the Mortgage Crisis of 2007-2008 Fannie Mae was bailed out by the government issuing new shares to the Treasury and suspending dividends on previously issued shares.  In 2010 Fannie Mae stock was delisted from the NYSE and traded over-the-counter.
