Global Crossing was a large telecommunication company who, at it's peak, was valued at over $47 billion. In 2002, they filed for bankruptcy after it was accused of an accounting scandal and cover-up.

In 2011, Global Crossing was purchased by Level 3 Communications for $3 billion which also assumed over $1 billion of debt.
