Description Extended Information

Inco was founded after the discovery of copper during the building of the Canadian Pacific Railroad in Ontario in 1902. The ore was also rich in nickel. They created the International Nickel Company subsidiary in NY and the International Minding Company of Canada to mine the nickel, both part of Inco. Over the years they were renamed CVRD Inco, Vale Inco, and finally just Vale. At one point Inco was the second largest nickel producer in the world.

This INCO Limited specimen stock certificate was printed in 1996.

Inco, as the International Nickel Company, was a charter member of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in October of 1928.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
