Description Extended Information

This 2002 X Prize Stock Certificate commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the trans-Atlantic Lindbergh Flight. It is beautifully detailed and is stamped Specimen.

Founded in 1995, the X Prize was founded to encourage technological development the could benefit mankind. It's board members have included Elon Musk, James Cameron, Arianna Huffington, and Larry Page. the original X Prize was a $10 Million dollar prize to the first privately financed team to fly passengers 100 kilometers into space and then to repeat it within two weeks. The prize was later renamed the Ansari X Prize and was won by Mojave Aerospace Ventures who won it in 2004 using the spacecraft SpaceShipOne.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
