This rare Chicago Board of Trade Member Ticket was issued to Frank F. Axtell (F.F. Axtell) in 1890 and signed by president William T Baker. Axtell was a grain trader on the Chicago Board of trade for 15 years. Frank F. Axtell was born in New York in 1847 and attended school in Boone County, Illinois after his family located there in 1852. He became president of the family bank, the Axtell Exchange Bank in 1892 which was acquired by the First State Bank of Harvard in 1902. His son, E. Lyle Axtell would take over the bank after his death in 1922. Frank F. Axtell was considered one of the most prominent men of McHenry County

William T. Baker
Baker was born in New York in 1841 and moved to Chicago in 1861 while on his way to the gold fields of the Rocky Mountains. He end up staying after taking a job with Hinckley & Handy as an accountant on Water Street. He became a trader in the pits of the Chicago Board of Trade and later a partner with the firm. When Hinckley & Handy retired, he took over the firm under his own name.

Baker later started firm with Walter F. Cobb and Charles A. Knight called Knight, Baker and Co which was destroyed by the Chicago Fire in 1871. He would rebuild and form William T. Baker & Co which would become one of the largest grain shipping houses in the world.

William T. Baker Served as President of the Chicago Board of Trade in 1890 and 1891 and later from 1895 to 1897. He was 32nd degree Knight Templar, a charter member of the Commercial Club of Chicago, and one of the original directors of the National Biscuit Company.

This CBOT Membership Ticket was issued in 1890 and features an engraving of the new CBOT building finished 1885. It become the tallest building in Chicago at the time.
