Description

This rare Chicago Board of Trade spoon is made of .925 sterling silver from 1893. Amazing detail features the CBOT building. Stamped Sterling with silversmith Reed & Barton Makers Marks.

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was established in 1848. Construction on its new building began in 1882 and was designed by William W. Boyington. It was built of steel and granite from Maine's Fox Island quarry and would become the tallest building in Chicago at the time.

In the 1920s the building became unsound due to construction of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago across the street. A new building was designed by Holabird & Root and the current Chicago Board of Trade Building was completed in 1930 on the same site. The Art Deco building was the tallest building in Chicago for about 35 years and is designated a Chicago Landmark
