Celanese Corporation was founded in 1918 as the American Cellulose and Chemical Manufacturing Company to provide cheap fabric for aircraft manufacture for World War I.  In 1924 the company changed it's name to Celanese Corp. of America.  In 2004 the company was taken private by the Blackstone Group and then IPO's in 2005 as Celanese Corporation.  Celanese Corporation is now one of the largest chemical companies in America. Common stock issued in the 1960s.
