Infoseek was founded by Steve Kirsch in 1994 and was one of the first internet search engines and was adopted by Netscape to be the default search engine on Netscape Navigator. It was consistently in the top ten websites by visits in the late 1990s. Disney bought a 43% stake in 1998 and incorporated in their various domains. Disney purchase infoseek in full in 1999. The infoseek brand was faded out in North America but is still used in Australia and Japan.
