This large hand-colored old map of New York City and the surrounding area was published by A.J. Johnson and Benjamin Ward. The map is from Johnson's New Illustrated (Steel Plate) Family Atlas. The map features details New York of New York City including Central Park and the Botanical Gardens, Brooklyn, the Hudson and East Rivers, as well as Ellis Island. Great detail down the street level.

A.J. Johnson was a prominent map maker in the United States in the 19th Century. He worked along side Colton in his early days before branching out on his own. His first major publication was Johnson's New Illustrated (Steel Plate) Family Atlas.
