The Housatonic Railroad was chartered in 1836 and built a rail line from Bridgeport, CT to the Massachusetts state line. It ran along the Housatonic River Valley and connected to the Berkshire Railroad which continued on to West Stockbridge. It was acquired by the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad in 1892.

This oversized $1000,mortage bond from the Housatonic RailRoad Company is from the 1880s and features a wonderful vignette of two steam engines.
