Description Extended Information

The Mohawk & Hudson Railroad Company was the first railroad stock listed on the NYSE in 1830. At that time, the Exchange was called the New York Stock & Exchange Board. They formally changed their name to the New York Stock Exchange in 1863. The listing would prove to be significant as Railroads would dominate trading for the rest of the century as Americans expanded transportation and trade west.

Mohawk & Hudson was the first railroad built in New York and one of the first in the United States. It linked the Mohawk River at Schenectady with the Hudson River in Albany, NY. These Mohawk & Hudson Railroad Company stock certificates were issued from 1835-1837 and are hand-signed.
