This rare American Express Company stock certificate was issued to and signed by founder William G. Fargo and his partner Henry Wells (aka Wells Fargo) as well as his brother James C. Fargo who was President of American Express for 30 years.

American Express was founded by Henry Wells, William G. Fargo and J.W. Butterfield in 1850 in Buffalo, NY. Just two years later, Wells and Fargo would also start Wells Fargo & Co. Together they founded two of the most iconic companies in American History.

This amazing American Express Stock Certificate was issued to William G Fargo and was signed by him on the back. Henry Wells signed as President and James C. Fargo signed as Secretary. It was also signed by Alexander Holland as Treasurer who was the son-in-law of founder John Butterfield. The certificate was issued in 1866 when William G. Fargo would have also been serving as the Mayor of Buffalo, New York.
