Description Extended Information

This Convertible Preferred Stock from AT&T was printed in the early 1970s. Most of these were cancelled and were un-issued because some mistake was made on the certificate making them somewhat unique.

American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T) was established by the American Bell company in 1885 to provide nation wide long distance. In 1899 AT&T became the parent company of both American Bell and Bell Systems. During most of the 1900's AT&T held a monopoly in long distance phone services in the U.S. and Canada getting the nick name of Ma Bell. The company was broken up in 1984 due to violations of anti-trust law. During this time the company was broken up into the 7 baby bells. This convertible preferred shares stock certificate dates back to 1970's and is a symbol of the storied American communication industry.
