This Ambergris Mines Company Stock Certificate was signed by Eugene R. Day in 1916. He was a member of the Day Mines, Inc. mining empire. Eugene Day was born in 1873 and the son of Henry Day joined the family mining business after school. He was part of the development and management of the Hercules Mine as well as the Ray-Jefferson, and the Amazon-Manhattan. He also was part of the Standard Dairy Company in Osburn, Idaho and the general store in Wardner. He owned half of the Hardware and Foundry in Coeur d'Alene and the Wallace Powder Company.

The Ambergris Consolidated Mining Company was located next to the Day's Hercules Mine. A settlement of a legal conflict over the claims of the Ambergris Consolidated was settled in 1908. It required the Hercules to allow the working of the Ambergris mine through a tunnel on its property. In return, the Day family received 1,516,000 new shares of stock which gave the Days majority control of the Ambergris Consolidated Mining Company.
