This Amerada Hess Corp $5,000 Bond Certificate was issued in 1971. Founded by British Oil entrepreneur Lord Cowdray in 1919 to look for oil in North America. Amerada Corp was incorporated in 1920 as a holding company for the Amerada Petroleum Corporation. In 1941 they merged both companies into the Amerada Corp. Postwar demand lead to record sales and Leon Hess's, Hess Oil and Chemical bough into the company. They officially merged in 1968. They purchased the Meadville Corporation's Merit Gas Stations and rebranded them as Hess. They are now known as Hess Corp.
