American Airlines was formed in 1930 as Robertson Aircraft and Colonial Air Transport merged with over 80 smaller airlines to form American Airways.  They were renamed American Airlines in 1934.  This is an American Airlines $1000 Bond Certificate and is beautifully colored with a vignette that includes an airport and an American Airlines plane on the top center.  Issued 1970s.
