Description Extended Information

This rare Associated Telephone Utilities Company Stock Certificate was issued in 1930. Formed in 1926 through the merger of Associated Telephone Company of Long Beach and Commonwealth Telephone (Wisconsin). They went into receivership in 1933 and reorganized as General Telephone Corporation. They grew to become the largest independent telephone system outside of the Bell System. They merged with Sylvania Electric Products in 1959 and became General Telephone & Electronics Corp (GT&E). They were acquired by Bell Atlantic in 2000 and then became Verizon Communications.
