This Atchison & Nebraska Rail Road Company stock certificate was issued in 1879 and is hand signed by the company president. The Atchison & Nebraska dates back to 1865 as the Atchison and Nebraska City Railroad but "City" was removed from the name when it formally organized in 1869. It originally ran from Atchison, Kansas to state line near White Cloud. The purchased the Atchison, Lincoln and Columbus in 1871 and expanded the line to Lincoln, NE. In 1908, they were sold to the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad.
