Description

This map from 1772 is based upon Bauche's work and compares the cartography of the West Coast of North America and Northeast Coast of Asia. Russian discoveries from 1731 tp 1742 are illustrated on the upper portion including the Sea of the West as well as noted routes traveled by explorers. The bottom is based upon Kaempfer's work of Japan with a different take on the regions. Part of a 10 part supplement to Diderot's Encyclopedia.

Didier Robert de Vaugondy served as geographer to King Louis XV and Duke of Lorraine. His maps and globes are highly sought after.
