This City of Los Angeles Water Works Bond was issued in 1933 and is signed by Mayor John C. Porter. Porter was the 33rd mayor of Los Angeles serving from 1929 to 1933 when he replaced the corrupt mayor George Cryer. He was member of the Ku Klux Clan and his politics were described as xenophobic Protestant populism.

The Movie "Chinatown" by Roman Polanski and starring Jack Nicholson and Fay Dunaway was based upon the Los Angeles Water Wars in the 1930s.
