The Cleveland, Painesville and Ashtabula Railroad was founded in 1848 and ran from Cleveland Ohio to the Ohio-Pennsylvania border.  The railway completed the line from Buffalo New York to Chicago Illinois.  The company was renamed the Lake Shore Railway in 1868.  This stock certifcate was issued in 1862.  Signed by CP&A's President Amasa Stone who served until 1869.
