This Detachable Bit Company stock certificate was issued in 1939 and is hand signed. The first detachable bit for mining was developed in 1922 and help to revolutionize rock drilling. The Detachable Bit Company was the successor company of the Detachable Bit Corporation after they dissolved in 1936. They developed bits based on the patents of Thurston who is widely credited as developing the first practical detachable drilling bit.
