Description Extended Information

The Dunleith and Dubuque Bridge Company was chartered in 1857.  Delayed by the Civil War the bridge was not built until 1868.  The bridge was built by Andrew Carnegie and his Keystone Bridge Company.  The bridge was created to traverse the Mississippi River between Illinois and Iowa, previously railroad cars had to be ferried across the river by boat.  The bridge was officially opened in 1889 and was leased to the Illinois Central Railroad.   Unissued share from the 1800s.  Vignette features an old train yard next to the sea with a passing ship.  From the statue of Iowa.
