Description Extended Information

Footstar's history dates back to 1922 as the Melville Shoe Company which at one time had over 7000 retail shoe stores in the U.S. They became a massive and diverse company even purchasing Marshall's in 1976. They became CVS Corp in 1996, now known as CVS Health.

In 1996, Footstar was spun off from Melville/ CVS as part of an effort to get rid of most brand unrelated to the pharmacy. Footstar consisted of Melville divisions Thom McAn, FootAction and Meldisco which primarily sold in Kmart. They purchased Just for Feet in 2000. In 2004 they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Just for Feet was shut down and FootAction sold to Foot Locker. Footstar emerged from bankruptcy in 2006 and sold most of their inventory to Kmart and Sears obtained the remaining brands.

This Footstar specimen stock certificate was printed in 2006.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
