Description Extended Information

This Fred'K Southack & Alwyn Ball Jr, Inc stock certificate was issued in 1925 and is hand-signed by co-founder Alwyn Ball, Jr. Fred'k Southack & Alwyn Ball Jr. was one of the oldest and most prestigious real estate companies in Manhattan. The company dates back to 1882 with the founding a small office by Frederick Southack. He was later joined by Ball and in 1899 they founded Fred'k Southack & Company.

They purchased the lot on Broad St and Exchange Place on which the Broad Exchange Building was raised. At the time, it was the largest office structure in the world. They were responsible for sales from Fifth Avenue to 23rd St including the plot that the Siegel-Cooper Building would be built. They were the agents for the sale of the old Trinity Building and they were active in the widening of Elm Street.

Southack died in 1907 and Alwyn Ball Jr would become the sole owner and president. They would go on to manage many prominent buildings in Manhattan including the Bowling Green Building, No 11 Broadway, the Broad Exchange Building, No 25 Broad Street, and many more.

In 1924 they re-incorporated (this stock certificate) for capital to further their expansion of their Bond and Mortgage Investment Department.
