This Great Northern Railway Stock Certificate was issued from the 1960s to the 1970s and features the portrait of founder James J. Hill. Hill and a group of investor purchased the St. Paul and Pacific RR in 1878. Shortly after with the consolidation of several other lines, he changed the name to the Great Northern Railway. The Great Northern ran throughout the Midwest and north to Canada.

In 1970 the Great Northern merged with three other Railway to form the Burlington Northern Railroad.

These Great Northern Railway stock certificate are becoming scarce.
