Description Extended Information

These International Mercantile Marine Stock Certificate were issued from the 19 teens to the 1920s and are hand-signed.

The International Mercantile Marine Company (IMM) was a large American shipping conglomerate established in 1902 by industrialist J.P. Morgan who aimed to consolidate several major shipping lines and create a virtual monopoly in the shipping trade. IMM owned the White Star Line, the British shipping company famous for its luxurious passenger ships, including the RMS Titanic. The White Star Line was renowned for its emphasis on comfort and elegance, but despite its prestige, it faced financial difficulties that contributed to the company's eventual decline. The Titanic, one of its most infamous vessels, sank in 1912 after hitting an iceberg, becoming a symbol of maritime tragedy and highlighting the risks of early 20th-century ocean travel.
