Description Extended Information

International Mercantile Marine was a trust formed by J.P. Morgan in 1902 in an attempt to monopolize the shipping trade. Included in International Mercantile Marine was White Star Lines which was the owner of the Titanic. The company went into receivership in 1915 and eventually emerged as United States Lines. This stock certificate was issued in the 1930s. Hand signed.

The International Mercantile Marine Company (IMM)
Founded in 1902 by financier J.P. Morgan, was created as a holding corporation to consolidate several major transatlantic shipping lines, including the White Star Line, with the aim of dominating the maritime passenger and cargo industry. The White Star Line, one of IMM's key subsidiaries, is famously known for operating the RMS Titanic, which was launched in 1912 and touted as the largest and most luxurious ocean liner of its time. Tragically, the Titanic sank after hitting an iceberg during its maiden voyage, resulting in the loss of over 1,500 lives and becoming one of the most infamous maritime disasters in history.
