The Maine Central Railroad was formed in 1856 and by 1884 it was the longest railroad in New England.  It was taken under the control of the United States Nationalized railroads between 1917 and 1920 due to World War I.  The Railroad remained until 1981 when it was purchased by Guilford Transportation Industries.  Issued in the 1940s - 1950s.  Vignette features two steam trains; one from the a head one view and the other from the caboos which gives a great contrast.  Men are working on the rail lines.  Prior preference stock shares at $100 each.  Hand signed.
