Description Extended Information

This rare Meister Brau specimen stock was printed in 1972. These are very hard to find. Meister Brau dates its history back to 1891 as Peter Hand Brewing Company in Chicago. Peter Hand's lager, Meister Brau, survived prohibition and was quite successful. In 1965, the brewer was sold and the new company was named Meister Brau, Inc. They advertised heavily and even sponsored the Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks, Bulls and even the re-election of Mayor Richard Daley. Through mismanagement, the company came under financial pressure and sold most of their brands to Miller in 1972. Meister Brau Lite we rebranded as Miller Lite, one of the most popular light beers today. The existing brewery file for bankruptcy and was the last brewery in Chicago until the late 80s.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
