This New York, Lackawanna and Western Railway Co $1000 Gold Bond Certificate was issued in 1922 and is hand-signed. History dates back to 1869 as the Valley Railroad which connected Great Bend, PA to Binghamton, NY. They purchased the Lackawanna and Bloomsburg Railroad in 1873 and in 1876 they re-gauged the whole line to standard. They formed the New York, Lackawanna and Western Railroad in 1880 to continue the line from Binghamton to Buffalo.
