1982 NYSE Solid Bronze Medallion (3") – George Washington & Bull/Bear Sculpture

Add a piece of Wall Street history to your collection with this 1982 New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) solid bronze medallion. Designed to commemorate the iconic NYSE imagery, it features the NYSE Building facade and the George Washington statue silhouette on the front, while the reverse showcases the Bull and Bear sculpture by Isidore Bonheur.

Front Design: NYSE Facade + George Washington Statue

The obverse highlights the famous NYSE Building facade and includes the George Washington statue silhouette positioned in front of the Exchange. This statue subject is tied to a long-running trading-floor tradition of “luck.”

George Washington Sculpture History

  • The sculpture was originally exhibited as a combat piece at the Paris Salon in 1857.
  • A prominent casting later spent over 80 years inside the Luncheon Club at 11 Wall Street within the NYSE building.
  • Traders reportedly rubbed the sculpture for good luck before making it to the trading floor.
  • When the club closed in 2006, the statue was moved to the Museum of American Finance.

Reverse Design: Isidore Bonheur’s Bull & Bear

The reverse features the renowned Bull and Bear sculpture attributed to Isidore Bonheur—an enduring symbol associated with market strength and momentum. This combination of Washington + Bull/Bear imagery makes the medallion especially attractive to Wall Street memorabilia and financial art collectors.
