Norther Pacific Railway Company was founded by an Act of Congress, signed by President Lincoln in 1864. Much of its route was determined by the Lewis and Clark expedition. The Northern Pacific Railroad was one of the original members of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Added July 3, 1884.
