Founded by George Pullman, the Pullman Car Company produced railroad cars using a mass production technique that made them a virtual monopoly. George Pullman developed the sleeping car which allowed passengers to sleep in a bed. The Pullman Company was founded in 1859. Pullman was ordered to breakup by a US antitrust case in 1944 and it component eventually merged with other companies.
