This Tamarack & Custer Consolidated Mining Company stock certificate was signed by mining tycoon Henry L. Day in 1941. Henry Day was educated in mining and geology at the University of California and Harvard University. After his graduation he managed the family mining business with his father Jerome Day. He consolidated their various mining claims to form Day Mines, Inc. and improved operation to be more efficient.

He became active in business and politics and was actively involved with the University of Idaho. He became an active supporter of the Republican Party locally and nationally. He was a leader in the construction of the Wallace Civic Memorial Auditorium, the Camp Fire Girls camp on Lake Coeur d'Alene, and the building of the East Shoshone Hospital in Silverton, Idaho.

The Custer Consolidated Mining Company was founded in 1910 to manage several older mins in Burke Canyon near Gem, Idaho. These included the Custer, Carbone Led and the Fairview Fraction. The Custer mine was one of the first producing silver mines in the region. It became part of the Day Mines Company. In 1913 they merged with neighboring Tamarack & Chesapeak Mining Company to form the Tamarack & Custer Consolidated Mining Company.
