Based out of San Antonio, Texas the Tesoro Petroleum Corp was founded in 1968 as a oil exploration and production company. It began operations in Alaska with its first refinery. Tesoro became the third largest independent petroleum company in the U.S. and became a Fortune 500 company. They operated over 3000 gas stations as Tesoro as well as Shell, ExxonMobil and others.

They merged with Marathon Petroleum in 2018. This Tesoro stock certificate was issued in the 1970s.
