The May Department Store was founded in 1877 in Leadville Colorado during the silver rush.  The company moved to Denver in 1889 and later to St. Louis Missouri.  The department store business grew through out the 199's and in 2005 it was purchased by Federated Department Stores and the May stores were merged into the Macy's brand stores.  Issued in the 1940s. Founder Morton May, as President.
