Description Extended Information

United Aircraft Corp formed in 1934 when the Air Mail Act of 1934 required airline carrier and manufacturers could no longer be owned by the same company. As a result the United Aircraft and Transport Company became United Airlines and the manufacturing segment East of the Mississippi became the United Aircraft Corporation. Manufacturing West of the Mississippi became Boeing Aircraft. United Aircraft included Pratt & Whitney, Chance Vought, and Sikorsky.

United Aircraft would become major manufacturer of both passenger and military aircraft and in the 1970s they were renamed United Technologies Corporation which merged with the Raytheon Company in 2020 to form Raytheon Technologies and is one of the largest defense contractors in the world.

Dow Jones Member on March 4, 1939.
