The Virginia Electric and Power Company's history dates back to the colonial days with George Washington and James Madison as trustees of the Appomattox. Appomattox was established by the General Assembly and to secure water rights of river and took over several hydroelectric plants on the river. Through several acquisitions the company eventual was named the Virginia Electric and Power Company. They would eventual be known as Dominion Energy and is one of the largest electric and gas utilities in the U.S.

This Virginia Electric and Power Company stock certificate is unissued but still hand-signed by the company officers. Early certificate from the 1920s.
