This Ware River Rail Road Company stock certificate was issued in 1940 to Smith, Barney & Co and is hand-signed by the company president. Organized on June 12, 1873, the line travelled from Palmer to Winchendon which was leased to the Boston and Albany Railroad Company in 1874 for 999 years. The lease was later assumed by The New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company.
