Description Extended Information

This rare certificate from New York City was for the funding of what is arguably now the most famous park in the world, Central Park. Plans for central park were approved in 1853 and construction began in 1857. This Stock of the City of New York raised funds to build the park in 1856. This certificate was for $3000 and paid 5% per year.

This certificate is hand signed by the major of New York Fernando Wood. Fernando Wood was mayor for two terms as the 73rd and 75th major of New York. He also served in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Small split in the lower left where the endorsement signature ink on the back bled through.
