Discover a rare piece of Wall Street history: the Emergency Crisis Action Committee coin used by NYSE floor brokers and specialists to resolve disputes. This 1.25” x 1.25” solid brass-like alloy token features a bull on the front and the legend “Emergency Crisis Action Committee.” The back bears a bear, the phrase “Help is only a Phone Call Away,” and a bottom phone number.
These very rare coins were used by NYSE Trading Floor Brokers and Specialists to resolve disputes on the floor. By rule all employees on the NYSE floor who act as trading assistants must pass a series 25 test. When they passed, they received this coin from the member firm. When a dispute arises between two brokers or specialists that can't be resolved, they call the Emergency Crisis Action Committee by using the number on the bottom (the number is now disconnected). A committee member then helps resolve the dispute, often times flipping this coin to determine the outcome.
Over the years we have only found a handful of these and they rarely become available on the open market. This is the first one we have found in over 3 years.
