The Buttonwood Club was found in the 1960s by senior members of the New York Stock Exchange who have been members for at least 25 years with the purpose of spreading good will among members and to recognize outstanding service and tenure to the Exchange. The Buttonwood Club still exists today.

The symbol of the Buttonwood Tree recognizes the original formation of the Stock Exchange in 1792 which was signed underneath a Buttonwood Tree by founding members.

Ben Silver has been a maker of fine Blazer Buttons since the 1960s making buttons for many Presidents, Universities and Companies.
