Description Extended Information

This rare Goldman Sachs Stock Certificate is a specimen printed in 1999 for their IPO on the New York Stock Exchange. This specimen was given out to Goldman Sachs employees by CEO Henry "Hank" Paulson to commemorate the IPO. Employees were also given stock options for the IPO.

Goldman Sachs is one of the largest investment banks and brokerages in the world. Goldman Sachs was founded in 1869 by Marcus Goldman. His son-in-law later jointed the firm in 1882 and his name joined the firm a few years later. Their pictures are seen of the stock certificate vignette. Great piece of Wall Street History.

Added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average 2013

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
