Description

Before the advent of computers, traders at the Chicago Board of Trade communicated and traded via telegraph. To facilitate more accurate trades and to better relay information, the Robinson Telegraphic Cipher was created in 1872. The Telegraphic Cipher was a standardized listing of words, phrases and numbers into abbreviations for traders at the CBOT.
