Description Extended Information

Founded in 1859, the Railroad Company added Santa Fe to the name in 1863.  The railroad played a large part in the development of the west, reaching into the frontier and hauling cattle driven to Dodge City on Cattle drives.  The railroad also was part of the Royal Gorge Railroad War where the company was involved in a two year armed conflict with the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. The railroad merged with Burlington Northern in 1996 forming the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway.  Issued in 1895 from the State of Kansas.  Vignette features a farmer with a horse drawn plow and covered wagon in the background.
