Eckerd Drugs of Florida was founded in 1898 in Erie Pennsylvania by Milton Eckerd. At their peak they operated over 2800 stores in 23 states and were the 4th largest drug chain in the U.S. In 1960 a sit in was staged at a Columbia South Carolina Eckerd Store which lead to the landmark Supreme Court decision in Bouie v. City of Columbia.

Eckerd merged with JCPenny in 1996. In 2004 their southern operations merged with CVS which made them larger than Walgreens. Its other operations were sold to Rite Aid. Issued in 1969. Vignette of a chemist and a machinery worker.
