This New York Telephone Company $1000 Bond Certificate was issued in 1954. Founded in 1876 to rent telephone equipment to users who were expected to provide wires to connect them in private networks excluding the need to hire private telegraph operators or the use of exchanges. They became New York Telephone Company in 1896 after taking over the NYC operations of the American Bell Company. They then were purchased by AT&T.
