Description Extended Information

This rare Robert Mondavi Specimen Stock Certificate is from their IPO in 1993. They are no longer a public company make these quite difficult to find. It features the printed signature of Robert Mondavi as Chairman of the Board. Mondavi started his winery in Napa Valley in 1966 and is largely credited with establishing California's Napa Valley as a highly respected source of wine.

Robert Mondavi went public on the Nasdaq in 1993 raising close to $50 million with a value of just over $200 million. In 2004, shareholders accepted a $1.3 billion offer from Constellation Brands making the company private and part of Constellation.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
